PAINTINGS

Greig's easel painting career began in earnest in 1962 when Dave Stirling, an Estes Park artist (1918–1971), invited him to stay in Estes Park and work in his gallery and studios at "Bugscuffle Ranch" in the Rocky Mountain National Park.

Greig was an associate there from 1962 until 1968. In 1967, Greig's wife, Ann, opened their first gallery specifically to showcase Greig's work. In 1973–1974, Ann and Greig designed and built the first stages of "The Courtyard Shops," which housed their GREIG STEINER GALLERY, where they moved in January of 1974. In 1978, the building was expanded to include 16 shops, THE COURTYARD TAVERN, and THE GAZEBO RESTAURANT; at the same time, they opened an interior accessories shop called HIGHFALUTIN INTERIORS—all of which they personally ran. Greig also designed the interiors for the bar and restaurant, which Ann and Greig owned and operated until 1987.

Greig is known for his paintings of the Rocky Mountain area, as well as works created in Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and other locations around the world. He primarily works in oil and also sculpts in bronze, cold-cast marble, terracotta, and porcelain. His work has been shown from coast to coast in the U.S. in solo exhibitions and in galleries from New York to California.

His list of awards began when he was 12 years old, winning first prize in an exhibition in his hometown of Baldwin Park, California, where his work was moved from the student division into the adult division, where he won both first and second prizes. He is also known for judging art shows and giving demonstrations in the Colorado area.

DRAWINGS AND PRINTS

The print collection created by Greig contains over 70 images, dating from the earliest one in 1964. Most of the prints are based on pencil or ink drawings, which are the exact size of the print, and many have been hand-colored with oil washes by Greig. Some offset prints are included, which are clearly designated as such. Pencil drawing is his favorite medium, and he creates drawings on commission, either in pencil or ink on paper, or in the larger, painterly style using poured enamels. Custom framing is available to order.
